Samsung’s new 1.29mm thick LCD module

Samsung has anounced the thinnest LCD module which is only 1.29mm thick. Samsung will utilize the ultra slim LCD module in its Ultra Edition II mobile phones. It is expected that Samsung will start production in second quarter this year.

Dell has lunched a 30 inch Wide Screen LCD Computer Monitor for graphics professionals. Up to this point, only Apple Computer has a worthy 30 inch Wide Screen contender in the Cinema Pro HD.

The Dell? 3007WFP requires a DVI-D dual-link graphic card that supports WQXGA (2560×1600) resolution. The 3007WFP is optimized to work with Dell? XPS 400 and 600 desktops, Dell Precision? Workstations (380, 470 and 670) and additional systems that support WQXGA.

HannStar Display expects LCD monitors to drop 10% this quarter

The ASP (average selling prices) for LCD monitor panels is expected to drop 10% in the first quarter amid lower demand in US and Europe.

However, prices for LCD monitors will remain flat in the second quarter and are expected to rebound in the second half of 2006 as demand picks up.

Last quarter, HannStar shipped 3.22 million TFT LCD panels, up 10% on quarter, with the 19-inch segment accounting for 65% of its total revenues in the fourth quarter, the company indicated.

LG anounced two high-end LCD monitors with a faster response time. The L1732P and L1932P monitors have a 4-microsecond response time, and produces optimal image quality for fast-action sports, games and movies.
The monitor boasts 300cd/sq.m brightness, an increased contrast ratio of 700:1 and an ultra-wide viewing angle of 170 degrees. Other features include rotation of up to 90 degrees and auto pivot. Read more...

Q: How do ‘’LCD” displays like the one that makes black numbers on a gray background on my watch work?

A: An LCD is a ‘’Liquid Crystal Display,” which if you read and think about for a moment sounds pretty weird. How can a crystal be liquid?

Well, a liquid is supposed to be something that flows and, microscopically, it is a sort of random mess. A crystal is something that has some regularity to its structure, like a grain of salt, and microscopically you see atoms all nicely lined up in rows.

LCD monitor sales surge during Xmas shopping

LCD monitor sales posted substantial gains during the traditional shopping week known as Black Friday. Led by falling prices, unit sales of LCD monitors increased by 36 % year-over-year.

The study showed that promotional prices for 17- and 19-inch LCD monitors were less than $150 and $170, respectively. The low prices led the 19-inch LCD monitors to capture 41 percent of all retail monitor sales, up from 10 percent during the same week last year. Read more...


Samsung creates largest flexible LCD screen

Samsung has created what is so far the largest flexible LCD screen yet seen. While other bendable screen designs are based on OLED technology, this TFT LCD screen provides VGA (640 x 480) but is made from plastic substrates rather than the glass typically found in consumer LCD products.

There is no word on when similar screens will become available at acceptable price/availability levels on the consumer market, but it’s interesting to see the future regardless. Read more...


ASUS launch new LCD monitors

ASUS have announced that they are launch produce new models of the LCD monitors.

There are four monitors that all sport 17″ screens. Top of the range is the PM17TU, which has a 3ms response time and a 500cd/m brightness with a 600:1 contrast ratio. This model will come in at $399, with the low-end model (8ms, 400cd/m brightness) costing $299.

As a bonus, ASUS are offering a unique zero dead pixel warranty for an entire year, which means that if one of the blighters shows up at any point in the first twelve months, you can get a replacement. Read more...
